Biology Undergraduate Research Award

Established in 1988 by the Department of Biology to encourage undergraduates to engage in independent research projects and to gain experience writing research papers. Funding provided by Cook Inc. Recipient:

Blatchley Nature Study Club Scholarship

Established by the Blatchley Nature Study Club of Noblesville, Indiana, in 1989. Open to departmental juniors who plan to pursue graduate work in plant biology, ecology, or evolutionary biology. Also open to departmental
graduate students in these areas. Must be in-state residents with minimum GPAs of 3.0.

Howard W. Clark Scholarship

Established by Prudence L. Clark in honor of her husband. Open to departmental juniors and seniors with minimum GPAs of 3.3 and an interest in botany, soil building, and plant breeding.

Sears Crowell Scholarship

Established in honor of the late Professor P. Sears Crowell, Jr., who was a member of our faculty. Open to junior, senior, or graduate-level departmental majors enrolled in an internship program or class at a field station.

Carl Eigenmann Scholarship

Established by Dr. Adele R. Eiler in honor of her father. Open to departmental majors who have minimum GPAs of 3.3 and an interest in zoological or other biological research.

Arlene Ferguson Internship at Hilltop Gardens

Established by Stephen Ferguson (IU alumnus, J.D. '66 Law) in memory of his mother. Open to students who have sophomore status or higher, minimum GPAs of 3.3, and an interest in botany.

Fox Glen Research and Education Fund

Established in honor of the late John Sinclair, a member of our faculty who provided funds for this award. Open to departmental majors engaged in independent research. Students must submit research papers in the form of publishable manuscripts.

Ellen Wienzapfel: For her paper entitled, "The role of SpoT in cell growth, cell differentiation, and holdfast production in the bacterium Caulobacter crescentus"

Rex Grossman Award

Established by Daniel Grossman (IU alumnus, Biological Sciences ‘73, M.D. ‘76) in memory of his father. Open to graduating senior departmental majors who have been admitted to medical or optometry school in the fall.

L.S. McClung Scholarship

Endowed by Cornelius F. Sterling (IU alumnus, A.B. ‘42 Bacteriology) in honor of the late L.S. McClung, who was a member of our faculty. Open to microbiology majors planning to work or pursue graduate studies in this field. Candidates must be in-state residents and have science GPAs of 3.0 or greater.

Senior Class Award for Teaching Excellence in Biology and Dedication to Undergraduates

Established by the Biology Club in 1979 to honor outstanding departmental faculty. The club solicits nominations from departmental seniors each year. Recipients have their names engraved on a plaque, which is displayed outside the Jordan Hall Lieber Room.
